Japanese Ikebana Basket
Over the years, Japanese artists have been inspired by shapes from other parts of Asia. The gourd is a classic example of the Japanese adoption of borrowed forms. Spiraling from the bottom, strips of bamboo have been randomly extended upward. Thin strips of bamboo have been twisted, braided and then wrapped around the middle to imitate a cord and tassel. Early to mid-1900’s. Very good condition. Dimensions: 15 ½” x 8”
