These bronze altar candlestands take their theme and some design aspects from China, but the overall shape and bronze filigree work indicates a 19th century Japanese origin. The eyes on the bases derive from ancient Chinese archaic bronzes where such stylized features were common. The low relief design is a lightning pattern , a version of the Greek key fret design, popular in China for centuries and often used by Japanese artisans in their own designs. They are in very good condition, except for height variation in the candle stems. Dimensions: 18 x 5
